Meet John Warner Barber - Early American Author, Historian and Artist

Meet John Warner Barber - Early American Author, Historian and Artist Online

He is one of Connecticut's early historians and illustrators who published over 60 books and produced hundreds of engravings chronicling American towns and scenes before photography.  His illustrations grace the most successful books published during the 1800s.  Born in Windsor, CT and living most of his life in New Haven, Barber was active in the Anti-masonic, Temperance, and Abolitionist movements.  His illustrated pamphlet covering the Amistad trial supported their freedom.

His 1837 book highlights CT's history of each town with stories, facts, and detailed, accurate drawings.  During this 50-minute presentation, John Cilio highlights his best-selling books, the American Revolution, and a huge 1,700-page two-volume travel log on America in 1861.  There will be a Q&A at the end of the presentation.
