Abraham Lincoln, Man of Compassion: Perspectives from the Mason-Dixon Line In-Person
Abraham Lincoln's rise from humble roots in Kentucky and the wilderness of Indiana captures our imagination as the very essence of the American dream. His immersion in both slave and non-slave states prepared him to navigate the great trial of the Civil War. This talk features highlights of his life and the sources of his incredible ability to understand, appreciate and consolidate many different perspectives.
The presenter, Paula Hopewell, will include some of CT's ties to Lincoln, his connection to Harriet Beecher Stowe and election results for his two runs for the presidency, including the voting record of Newtown and some of its neighbors. Paula grew up in Northern Kentucky, across the Ohio River from Cincinnati. She has lived in Brookfield, CT since 1997, where interest in her KY roots spurred her fascination with Abraham Lincoln. This program is presented by the Newtown Historical Society. Register in advance to save your seat(s) in the room.
